Blankets? Pillows? Beverages?

Jet Blue has announced that they will start charging for blankets and pillows/

This set of items will be marketed as environmentally friendly and sold for $7. Also included with the blanket and pillow is a coupon to Bed Bath & Beyond for $5.

For Jet Blue travelers, purchasing these sets are your only option for slumber unless you bring your own.

Although the pillow/blanket sets are marketed as an effort to go green and reduce the exposure of germs, we all know it is purely economically driven.

NASHVILLE, TN

Nashville, Tn. is the home of country music, Grand Ol Opry, the Tennessee Titans, and Fisk University. It is rich with history, southern cooking, and southern hospitality. It's also a wonderful place to wind down and enjoy life.

A must see of this great city is The Grand Ol Opry. There is a tour available that educates on the history of the site as well as it's importance to country music. One of the highlights of the tour is to stand on the stage where so many country music greats, such as Willie Nelson and Charlie Pride, once stood and performed.

A Nashville city tour is a sightseeing paradise. A plethora of historical and fun facts are pointed out about the city. My favorite sight, Fisk University.

Be sure to check out nfl.com if you are planning a visit to this great city during football season. The best way to culminate this trip would be monday night football with the Tennesse Titans!!!

DENVER

Denver, Co. is the home of the Democratic National Convention. But this beautiful city has more to offer than just politics.

Here are a few fun facts for the city that will host the convention for this history making presidential race.

When you think of Denver, automatically you think of outdoor sports. Skiing, of course, top of the list. Dare I not mention the awesome Rocky Mountains. There are plenty of biking and pedestrian trails that allow you to catch a glimpse of this spectacular site. During the convention Freewheelin, a bike sharing program, has begun an intiative to provide 1,000 bicycles for use during the conventions.

Denver is now more than just outdoor sports. It now caters to sports fans and cultural connoisseurs. While in Denver, be sure to visit Downtown Denver or the Lo Do Neighborhood. You will see historic buildings that are now being used as lofts, stores, and hotels.

A great place to lodge is the Brown Palace Hotel. This is a 9 story triangular building that takes up a city block. Room rates start at $230 a night. There is also the option of the Comfort Inn right across the skybridge. Room rates start at $99 per night. A block from Union Station is the Oxford Hotel with rooms starting at $179.

The new mode of transportation for the Mile High City is the light rail.

A couple of wonderful places to dine in the Denver Area are Vistia Dipping Grill, Cry Baby Ranch, and the Wynkoop Brewery.

Denver has so much to offer, give them 36 hours and they will change your mind about this quiet mountain town.

HAWAIIAN FOOD PRICES

Planning a trip to Hawaii?

Please note that fuel prices have also affected the food prices on the island of paradise. The cost of food has always been more expensive because of shipping charges (most items are imported). Now shippers are passing on the cost of fuel their consumers.

A fun fact that helps keep food cost down on your trip, is to find tour packages that include a meal (such as a luau). Some hotels offer free breakfast as a standard feature. You may also want to look into renting a condo instead of staying at a hotel where you can cook your own meals.

HANDLE ON BAG CHARGES

The economy is bad for everyone. Including the airlines. Fuel charges continue to rise and unfortunately, the airlines are passing the cost to the consumer. The most recent transference is bag charges. For a number of years, there has been a weight limit and a limit on check in baggage. That has changed. While there is still a charge for baggage that exceeds weight limits (generally 50 pounds), some airlines are also charging for checked baggage, period.

Carriers such as Continental, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest allow the 1st checked bag for free.
Carriers such as American, Northwest, and United charge $15 for the 1st checked bag.

Now the 2nd checked bag, different story. Almost every carrier charges for the 2nd bag.
$25 appears to be the standard charge for the 2nd bag. If you are flying American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, or United, please be prepared for this charge. Don't forget, there is still a charge for excess weight.

JetBlue is only placing a $20 charge for the 2nd checked bag.

Don't fret, there is still an option for 2 bags checked for free. Southwest Airlines.

If you haven't purchased your ticket for your summer vacation, don't discount Southwest. It may be the best bang for your buck.
