HANDLE ON BAG CHARGES

The economy is bad for everyone. Including the airlines. Fuel charges continue to rise and unfortunately, the airlines are passing the cost to the consumer. The most recent transference is bag charges. For a number of years, there has been a weight limit and a limit on check in baggage. That has changed. While there is still a charge for baggage that exceeds weight limits (generally 50 pounds), some airlines are also charging for checked baggage, period.

Carriers such as Continental, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest allow the 1st checked bag for free.
Carriers such as American, Northwest, and United charge $15 for the 1st checked bag.

Now the 2nd checked bag, different story. Almost every carrier charges for the 2nd bag.
$25 appears to be the standard charge for the 2nd bag. If you are flying American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, or United, please be prepared for this charge. Don't forget, there is still a charge for excess weight.

JetBlue is only placing a $20 charge for the 2nd checked bag.

Don't fret, there is still an option for 2 bags checked for free. Southwest Airlines.

If you haven't purchased your ticket for your summer vacation, don't discount Southwest. It may be the best bang for your buck.
